Dementia awareness changes lives

Breaking the Witchcraft Stigma: How Community Dialogue Saved Grace

Breaking the Witchcraft Stigma: How Community Dialogue Saved Grace

At 78 years old, Grace was living in fear. Her confusion and memory loss had led her community to label her as a witch. Family members had begun avoiding her, and whispers followed her everywhere.

When Grace Link's dementia awareness team visited her community, they immediately recognized the signs of dementia, not witchcraft. Through community dialogues and caregiver training, we:

• Educated the community about dementia
• Trained Grace's family in proper elderly care
• Connected Grace with healthcare services
• Provided ongoing psychosocial support

The transformation was remarkable. Grace's family learned to understand her condition. The community stopped the accusations. Grace received proper care and medication to manage her symptoms.

Her daughter shares: "I didn't know dementia existed. I thought my mother was losing her mind or that something spiritual was happening. Grace Link opened our eyes. Now we care for her with love and understanding, not fear."

This is why we say: Dementia is not witchcraft. Every elder deserves dignity. Every caregiver deserves support.

Grace's story is one of hundreds. Through our elderly care program, we're changing perceptions one family at a time.
