How education transforms lives
From the Streets to the Classroom: John's Journey
At 8 years old, John was living on the streets of Kilifi Town. His parents had passed away, and relatives couldn't afford to care for him. He spent his days begging for food and sleeping wherever he could find shelter.
A community member brought John to Grace Link. We immediately enrolled him in GRASP Academy and began working on family reunification through our social workers.
Within months:
• John was attending school regularly
• He received three meals a day
• We provided clothing, bedding, and school materials
• He began trauma counseling
• Our social workers successfully reunited him with his grandmother
Today, John is in Grade 3 and excelling. His grandmother receives support through our family empowerment program, ensuring she can continue caring for him. John's smile has returned, and his dream of becoming a teacher is alive.
"I never thought I would go to school again," John says. "Grace Link gave me a new life. Now I want to help other children like me when I grow up."
John represents the 100+ vulnerable children we've rescued, educated, and supported. Each child has potential. Each child deserves a chance.
